You can manage insurance for multiple people under one account, including a partner, children, or other family members. Each person has their own individual contract, but all are managed from the same Member Center. This article explains how to add or remove a person, and the rules that apply for each Genki product.
π How family coverage works
A few key points to keep in mind:
Each person has their own individual contract. "Family coverage" simply means several contracts are grouped under one account for easier management.
Each person's premium is calculated separately. If contracts under your account share the same billing date, the charges appear together on a single invoice; if billing dates differ, you'll see one invoice per billing date. For more details, see Understanding your invoices, billing date, and renewal cycle.
Each contract can be cancelled or changed independently of the others.
Eligibility, pricing, and product rules are applied per person β for example, age-based pricing or the medical questionnaire for Genki Native.
β Adding a family member
The way you add someone depends on the product and the timing.
Genki Traveler
You can add a family member at any time by starting a new contract for them. There's no requirement to add everyone at once.
1οΈβ£ Go to the Genki Traveler sign-up page.
2οΈβ£ Sign up for the new person using your existing account email. This ensures the new contract is grouped under your account.
3οΈβ£ Choose their start date, region option, and home country.
4οΈβ£ Complete the payment. Their insurance certificate will be available in the Member Center immediately afterwards.
Each Genki Traveler contract is independent β pricing is based on the new person's age and chosen region, and the 14-day waiting period applies to their contract from their start date (unless they had prior insurance covering them up to that date).
Genki Native
You can add a family member to Genki Native at any time, but each new person goes through the full application process, including the medical questionnaire.
1οΈβ£ Go to the Genki Native sign-up page.
2οΈβ£ Sign up for the new person using your existing account email, so the new contract is grouped under your account.
3οΈβ£ Complete the medical questionnaire for the new person. You'll see the result of the application straight away.
4οΈβ£ If accepted, complete the payment. The new person's certificate will be available in the Member Center afterwards.
Each Genki Native contract is independent β pricing is based on the new person's age, deductible, and plan (Basic or Premium), and the 12-month minimum contract period applies from their start date.
πΌ Adding a newborn
If your child is born during your insurance period, you can add them to your account by starting a new contract for them. How the application works depends on the product and on your existing coverage at the time of birth.
Genki Traveler
Adding a newborn follows the standard sign-up process for any new family member, described above.
Genki Native β when a parent has been insured for at least 3 months
If at least one parent has been insured with Genki Native for at least 3 months at the time of birth, and the newborn is with that parent at birth:
The newborn can be added without going through the medical questionnaire.
If the application is submitted within 2 months of the date of birth, coverage can apply retroactively from the date of birth.
Outside of this window, the standard application rules apply.
Genki Native β when no parent has been insured for at least 3 months
If neither parent has been insured with Genki Native for at least 3 months at the time of birth:
The newborn can be added once they are at least 2 months old.
The application includes the medical questionnaire, with the result shown straight away.
Important things to keep in mind for any newborn
The contract is for the newborn specifically, not an extension of yours. Each child has their own individual contract, with its own start date, pricing, and conditions.
The earliest possible start date for a new contract is the earliest available in the sign-up flow (typically the day after sign-up for Genki Traveler, and 7 days after application for Genki Native β except in the Native cases described above where retroactive start applies).
For specifics on what's covered, please refer to the Genki Traveler and Genki Native collections.
If you have a newborn and you're not sure which path applies to you, contact our support team and we'll walk you through the options.
πͺ Removing a family member
Removing a family member means cancelling that person's individual contract. The cancellation rules of the product apply, exactly the same as if you were cancelling your own coverage.
To remove someone:
1οΈβ£ Go to Quick Actions β Cancel subscription in the Member Center, or directly to you.genki.world/cancel.
2οΈβ£ When you have multiple contracts under your account, you'll be asked to select which one you want to cancel.
3οΈβ£ Choose a cancellation date and complete the process.
The other contracts under your account remain active and unaffected.
For more on cancellation terms (including the 1-month minimum for Genki Traveler and the 12-month minimum for Genki Native), see How do I cancel my insurance?. For how refunds work after cancellation, see Refunds: when you get one, how it's calculated, and when to expect it.
β Common questions
Can I get a family discount? Each contract is priced individually, based on the person's age and chosen options. There is no separate family or group discount.
Can I add a family member who lives in a different country to me? Yes. Each contract is independent, so each person's home country (for Genki Traveler) or country of nationality (for Genki Native) is set based on their own circumstances.
Can I manage the family member's contract from my account? Yes. From your Member Center, you can switch between the people insured under your account using the dropdown at the top of the page. You'll see their certificate, invoices, and contract details just like your own.
Does adding a family member affect my own contract or pricing? No. Each contract is independent. Adding or removing someone has no effect on the price, terms, or coverage of any other contract on the account.
