Understanding your invoices, billing date, and renewal cycle

πŸ—“ How monthly billing works, when you're charged, and where to find your invoices

Written by Pedro

Genki insurance is billed monthly, with the payment method you set up at sign-up. This article explains when payments happen, how your invoices are structured, and where to find them in the Member Center.

πŸ“… How the billing date works

Your billing date is set when you sign up and matches your insurance start date. From then on, you're charged on the same day every month.

A few examples:

  • If your insurance started on the 15th of March, your next payments are on the 15th of April, 15th of May, and so on.

  • If your insurance started on the 31st of a month, billing falls on the last day of months that don't have a 31st (e.g. the 30th of April, the 28th of February).

The billing date doesn't change unless your contract changes (for example, if you cancel and start a new contract with a different start date).

πŸ’³ What gets charged

Each monthly invoice covers the next 30 days of coverage (your monthly insurance period).

  • The amount charged is your monthly premium, based on the product, plan, age, and any regional options you selected at sign-up.

  • For Genki Native, the amount also reflects any deductible option you chose.

  • The first invoice is charged at sign-up, before your insurance begins.

If you have multiple people insured under your account, each person's premium is calculated separately. If contracts under your account share the same billing date, the charges appear together on a single invoice; if billing dates differ, you'll see one invoice per billing date.

πŸ“‚ Where to find your invoices

All your invoices are available in the Member Center under Your Data β†’ Invoices.

For each invoice, you'll see:

  • The billing period it covers

  • The amount charged

  • The payment status (paid, open, or failed)

  • A link to download the invoice as a PDF

Past invoices remain accessible even after your insurance has ended, so you can download them at any time for personal records or expense reporting.

πŸ—“ Billing cycle and contract duration

Both Genki Traveler and Genki Native are billed monthly, but the contract structure is different for each.

Genki Traveler

Genki Traveler is a fixed-term contract, with a maximum duration of 1 year.

  • You're billed monthly throughout the contract.

  • The contract has a clear end date β€” it doesn't continue or renew automatically.

  • Once the contract ends, no further charges apply.

  • If you still need coverage after that, you can start a new contract (which is treated as a new policy, not a continuation of the old one).

For details on what happens at the end of your Traveler contract and how to continue coverage, see What happens when your Genki Traveler insurance ends, and how to continue coverage.

Genki Native

Genki Native is a continuous contract, with no fixed end date.

  • You're billed monthly throughout the contract.

  • There is a 12-month minimum contract period at sign-up.

  • After those first 12 months, you can cancel monthly with notice.

  • As long as your monthly payments remain active, your contract continues without interruption.

⚠️ Mid-cycle changes

If something changes mid-cycle, here's how it affects your billing:

❓ Common questions

Why was I charged before my insurance even started? The first payment is taken at sign-up, before your insurance begins. This is normal and ensures your coverage activates on your chosen start date.

Why is my first invoice different from later ones? If you signed up with a start date in the future, your first invoice might cover a slightly different period than later ones. From the second invoice onwards, the amount and period are consistent each month.

Can I change my billing date? The billing date is tied to your insurance start date and can't be changed mid-contract. If you'd like a different billing day, the only option is to cancel and start a new contract on a different date β€” note that pre-existing conditions and waiting period rules apply to any new contract.

I don't recognize a charge on my bank statement. Genki charges may appear under the name of the insurance partner (Squarelife) or the payment processor on your statement, rather than "Genki" directly. If you're unsure about a charge, contact our support team with the date and amount and we can confirm.
