How to update your payment method

πŸ”„ Updating the card or payment method used for your Genki subscription

Written by Pedro

You can update the payment method used for your Genki subscription at any time from the Member Center. This article explains how to update your card details, and how to switch to a different payment method altogether.

βœ… Updating your card

If you'd like to use a new card (for example, your previous card expired, was replaced by your bank, or you simply want to switch to a different one), you can update your card details directly from the Member Center.

1️⃣ Log into the Member Center.

2️⃣ Go to Your Data.

3️⃣ Under the Payment Method section, enter your new card details.

4️⃣ Save your changes. The next monthly payment will be charged to your new card.

This option is available at any time and does not affect your insurance, billing date, or contract in any way.

πŸ” Switching to a different payment method

Besides credit and debit cards, Genki also supports Revolut Pay, Google Pay, iDEAL, and Bancontact. For the full list and details on which card brands are accepted, see How can I pay for Genki insurance?.

To switch from a card to one of these alternative methods, the process is slightly different:

  • Switching to a different method is only available after a payment fails, through the open-invoice payment link.

  • This is a technical limitation of how the subscription is set up, not a restriction on your account.

If you'd like to switch methods proactively (before a payment fails), the practical workaround is to remove funds from your current card just before the next billing date. When the payment fails, you'll receive an email with the open-invoice payment link, and from there you can choose any of the supported methods.

πŸ“Œ What stays the same when you update

Updating your payment method does not change:

  • Your billing date (the day of the month your subscription is charged)

  • Your monthly premium

  • Your insurance start date or contract terms

  • Your coverage in any way

For more on how monthly billing works, see Understanding your invoices, billing date, and renewal cycle.

⚠️ A few things to keep in mind

  • Make sure your new card is valid and has sufficient funds before the next billing date, especially if your previous card was failing.

  • If you're using a third-party payment method (Revolut Pay, Google Pay, etc.), make sure the underlying account has enough balance.

  • If you're switching to a card from a different country, double-check that the card type is accepted β€” see How can I pay for Genki insurance?.

  • PayPal is not currently accepted as a payment method for Genki subscriptions.
