Applying for Genki Native

Everything you need to know about the application process, the medical questionnaire, and changing your answers

Written by Pedro

Genki Native is an international health insurance, which means every applicant completes a medical questionnaire and receives a decision from the insurer. Here's how the application works from start to finish.

πŸ“Œ How to Apply

The whole process happens online on the Genki Native sign-up page and takes just a few minutes:

  1. Check your price – enter your age and coverage options.

  2. Add family members (optional) – each person gets their own contract, all managed under one account.

  3. Select your plan – choose between Basic or Premium.

  4. Choose your deductible – €1,000, €500, or €0 per insurance year.

  5. Pick your start date – from 7 days from now up to 90 days in advance.

  6. Complete the medical questionnaire – receive an instant decision.

  7. Make your first payment if your application is accepted.

  8. Receive your insurance certificate right after payment, with instructions sent to your email.

You can apply even if you've already started your trip or are already living outside your home country.

⏳ Start Date & Waiting Periods

The earliest possible start date is 7 days after you complete your application. There's no overall waiting period, so you're covered for medical emergencies and illnesses from day one.

Some specific benefits have their own waiting periods:

  • 🦷 Dental (Premium only): 12 months for inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, and dentures, unless medically necessary due to an accident.

  • 🀰 Maternity: 12 months for prenatal care, childbirth, and planned maternity services. Life-threatening complications are covered immediately.

  • πŸ‘“ Vision: 6 months for contact lenses, frames, and prescription lenses.

  • 🧠 Mental health treatment: 6 months for psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment.

πŸ“ The Medical Questionnaire

As part of your application, you complete a short medical questionnaire. It's an online form with yes/no questions about your health history, such as chronic conditions, surgeries, medications, and recent treatments or symptoms.

The questionnaire is built into the application and takes only a few minutes to complete. As soon as you submit it, you receive an immediate result with no waiting or manual review.

The medical questions and decision rules are defined by the insurer, Squarelife. The assessment is fully automated, but Squarelife is responsible for how applications are evaluated. Genki does not influence this process or make any medical decisions.

πŸ’‘ A note on answering: Your answers need to reflect your own understanding of your medical history. We can't tell you how to answer or decide for you, but if you're unsure what a question means, our team can explain what it's asking in general terms.

πŸ”Ž How the Insurer Assesses Your Application

Genki Native is designed to cover long-term, comprehensive healthcare rather than only unexpected emergencies. Because of this, the insurer looks at both your current health and the likelihood of future medical needs over the long term, including:

  • Current conditions, their severity, and how stable or resolved they are today

  • Your medical history, such as recurring issues, past surgeries, and long-term treatment

  • Your overall health profile, including age

  • The risk of future complications or the need for ongoing care

This is why the insurer may take action even when a condition seems minor or well-controlled today.

βœ… Possible Outcomes

After you submit the questionnaire, your application results in one of four outcomes:

  1. Accepted – no changes to premium or benefits.

  2. Accepted with exclusions – certain conditions are excluded from coverage.

  3. Accepted with an increased premium – applied when a pre-existing condition represents a higher risk.

  4. Rejected – the application is not approved.

If an application is rejected, the system automatically blocks new applications from the same account for a few months.

πŸ”„ Order Expiration

Once your application is accepted, the order is valid for 7 days. If you don't complete payment within that time, the order expires, and you'll need to submit a new application.

To start fresh, go to the sign-up page, click the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner, and select "Start Over."

⚠️ Changing Your Answers in the Medical Questionnaire

Before you complete payment, your application isn't final, so you can reset your order and submit a new questionnaire. If you do this and change any of your previous answers, the system will automatically lock the application for a period of time.

If you need to change a response in the medical questionnaire or add further information, please don't keep resubmitting. Instead, reach out to our support team at [email protected] and tell us exactly what needs to be corrected or added. We'll take it from there and guide you through the next steps.
