Genki Explorer — Contract Ending: What You Need to Know

Maximum duration

  • Genki Explorer runs for a maximum of 1 year from the start date of the insurance (or 2 for older subscriptions still active).

  • At the end of 1 year, the contract terminates automatically and cannot be extended or continued under the same contract number.

(This limit is communicated on the website and in the official documents, including the Insurance Certificate and Consumer Conditions.)

After expiry: your options

1) Continue with travel health coverage → Genki Traveler

Genki Explorer is no longer available for new purchases. If you wish to remain on travel health coverage (max. 1 year), the available product is Genki Traveler.

Important to understand about a new Genki Traveler contract:

  • Coverage does not transfer from Explorer to Traveler.

  • Ongoing treatments under Explorer do not carry over to Traveler.

  • Pre-existing conditions: Genki Traveler does not cover illnesses, injuries, or conditions for which you had symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice within the 12 months before the new contract starts.

  • A new contract is assessed from scratch under Traveler’s terms and conditions.

2) If you need longer-term continuity → Genki Native

  • Genki Native is international health insurance with no fixed term (better for long-term needs and continuity).

  • You must complete a medical questionnaire; coverage for pre-existing conditions is decided by the insurer.

  • Note: benefits and waiting periods differ from travel health products.

What to do next

  • Check your Explorer end date and decide whether you want to start Genki Traveler (new 1-year contract) or explore Genki Native for long-term coverage.

  • If choosing Traveler, apply as a new contract before or after expiry (there is no way to “renew” Explorer or transfer coverage).

  • If you’re in ongoing treatment started under Explorer, plan for the fact that it won’t be covered under a new Traveler contract.

You can find more information in our Genki Traveler Help Center articles.
