Both Genki Explorer and Genki Resident cover any medically necessary treatments for both outpatient and inpatient.

However, there are fundamental differences in getting your costs covered depending if you require treatment while hospitalized or not.

What is the difference between outpatient and inpatient visits?

Outpatient:

  • Regular doctor consultations for non-emergency situations.

  • Clinic tests and examinations that don't require an overnight stay at the hospital

  • Regular check-ups and vaccinations

Inpatient:

  • Emergency hospitalization resulting from severe illnesses or accidents

  • Emergency or planned surgeries

  • Planned procedures that require an overnight stay at the hospital

It's important to understand the difference before starting your insurance because the procedure of requesting coverage for your medical costs will be different:

  • If you choose the doctor/clinic by yourself (you’re completely free to choose your favorite doctors near you) you will need to pay all the expenses upfront and keep the invoices and medical reports (the documents must include information about the diagnosis, treatment, period of treatment, and cost). After, you can access our Member Center under “Compensation” and follow the instructions to submit a claim for the payment of your medical costs directly to your bank account. Remember, if you have insurance with a €50 deductible the same will be deducted from the total amount of your bills. The 50€ deductible is only applied once per insurance, so you won’t have to pay €50 for each medical visit related to the same treatment.

If hospitalization is required:

If you get into an accident or suffer a sudden severe illness that requires hospitalization the most important thing to do first is to contact the local emergency services so they can transport you to the nearest suitable hospital.

Contrary to many insurances which will restrict the number of hospitals you can visit depending on their local network, as a Genki member you can choose any licensed hospital or doctor in the world.

Once at the hospital, you should receive the necessary urgent care, and once you’re able you can request the hospital to contact our 24/7 hospital assistance.

Alternatively, if you have a family member or friend, they can act on your behalf and instruct the hospital staff on how to proceed.

The payment will be made directly to the hospital, so you don’t have to pay any costs upfront.

You can find the phone number of our 24/7 hotline and instructions in the Member Center under "Help".
