When it comes to selecting health insurance for your time abroad, understanding the differences between Genki Explorer (travel health insurance) and Genki Native (International health insurance) is crucial. Both provide global coverage, but they are meant for different scenarios depending if you currently have any long-term healthcare coverage or not.

Learn more about Genki Explorer if you're looking for short to mid-term medical insurance.

If you're looking for long-term insurance learn more about Genki Native.

1. Duration and Coverage:

  • Genki Explorer: Suitable for shorter periods, with a maximum contract time of 2 years. Home country coverage for accidents and emergencies is available for 6 weeks in every 180 days.

  • Genki Native: Ideal for long-term living abroad, with no time limit on the contract. With Genki Native Premium coverage in your country of citizenship is also unlimited

2. Pre-existing Conditions:

  • Genki Explorer: Does not cover conditions that started in the 6 months before getting the insurance.

  • Genki Native: This may cover some existing conditions if approved by the insurer, starting with the submission of a health questionnaire.

3. Coverage Period for Treated Conditions:

  • Genki Explorer: Covers conditions treated during the insurance period, but only until the 2-year limit. Past treated conditions are not covered under a new Genki Explorer contract.

  • Genki Native: Provides continuous coverage for any condition, with no time limit, as long as the contract is active.

4. Coverage Scope, Alternative Treatments, and Preventive Care:

  • Genki Explorer: Primarily focuses on acute and immediate health needs. Does not cover alternative treatments or include preventive care options.

  • Genki Native: Offers comprehensive coverage for the entirety of your life, including alternative treatments like physiotherapy, massages, acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, and osteopathic treatments. Also includes preventive care benefits. All with the Genki Native Premium package.

In short, if you're planning a brief to mid-term trip and need coverage during travel, especially if you still keep some home-country coverage back home, Genki Explorer is a suitable choice. However, if you're settling abroad for an extended period, seeking comprehensive home country coverage, and considering alternative treatments and preventive care, Genki Native emerges as the preferred option.
