Genki Resident offers you worldwide coverage, all countries included without any restrictions regarding traveling warnings.
Yes, you can start your Genki Resident insurance if you've already started your trip or if you are already living outside your home country.
Genki Resident was made flexible for any frequent travelers such as digital nomads and expats who benefit from insurance without country barriers and no time limit for each country stay.
With Genki Resident, you can enjoy your insurance benefits in any country outside your home country for your entire life without any time limit. Coverage in your home country is 180 days per calendar year with all benefits included.
This is what you should know when starting your Genki Resident insurance:
Genki Resident doesn't have an overall waiting period, coverage starts from the start date with a few benefit exceptions:
Dentures, tooth and jaw adjustments (non-accident), childbirth, and outpatient psychotherapy are not covered during the first 10 months of insurance. Eyesight correction surgeries aren't covered during the first 2 years of insurance.
Many pre-existing conditions can still be covered but they will need to be pre-approved by the insurer (Barmenia) during your application so they can be included in the insurance. Some pre-existing conditions however will be rejected or be a reason for the application to be overall denied, or they will increase the final price.
There is no specific network of doctors you need to choose from. You can choose any doctor, clinic, or hospital in the world by yourself. Public or private.
You do not need to show any documents or insurance cards to the doctor during your consultation.
There are two options in terms of how to get your medical costs paid for any type of doctor visit, tests, or examinations that do not require you to stay overnight at the hospital:
If you choose the doctor/clinic by yourself (you’re completely free to choose your favorite doctors near you) you will need to pay all the expenses upfront and keep the invoices and medical reports (the documents must include information about the diagnosis, treatment, period of treatment, and cost). After, you can access our Member Center under “Compensation” and follow the instructions to submit a claim for the payment of your medical costs directly to your bank account. Remember, if you have insurance with a €50 deductible the same will be deducted from the total amount of your bills. The 50€ deductible is only applied once per insurance, so you won’t have to pay €50 for each medical visit related to the same treatment.
If you need help with finding a doctor at your location, or if you prefer to have a telemedicine consultation instead of an in-person consultation, you can use the Air Doctor app. Air Doctor will allow you to find local doctors in almost all countries in the world to schedule outpatient visits and follow-up examinations and treatment for many different specialties, not only general practitioners. You can also choose to book telemedicine consultations in multiple languages and get prescriptions from local doctors online. The best part? Any consultations booked through the Air Doctor will be paid directly by us to the clinic or doctor, so you don’t have to pay the costs upfront and file any claims for reimbursement. The local offer of doctors and clinics will change by location.
If you get into an accident or suffer a sudden severe illness that requires an onveright hospital stay the most important thing to do first is to contact the local emergency services so they can transport you to the nearest suitable hospital.
Once at the hospital, you should receive the necessary urgent care, and once you’re able you can request the hospital to contact our 24/7 hospital assistance:
Phone: +49 2247 922-5014
Email address: [email protected]
(The hospital can also write an email, provide their phone number, and ask for a call back)
In the alternative, if you have a family member or friend, they can act on your behalf and give instructions to the hospital staff about how to proceed.
The assistance needs the following information ready:
Name and date of birth of the insured person
Name and phone number of the attending physician/hospital
The (suspected) diagnosis
Date of the accident or when the illness has started
Name and phone number of the contact person on site (e.g. you), if there is one
Mention that they are contacting them regarding insurance PWT-120001 provided by DR-WALTER in partnership with Genki
The payment for hospitalizations will be made directly to the hospital, so you don’t have to pay any costs upfront.
Please, if the treatment does not require hospitalization do not contact the emergency assistance and follow the procedures described in the article: I'm feeling sick. How can I use my insurance?".
